Oktoberfest | Beer festival is the world’s largest Volksfest (people’s festival), held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It’s a 16- to 18-day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first Sunday in October. While the name suggests October, most of the festival happens in September. It’s a celebration of Bavarian culture, featuring traditional music, food, and, of course, beer.
A Rich History :
The first Oktoberfest was held in 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates, which have been called Theresienwiese (“Theresa’s Meadow”) ever since. From this royal beginning, it has grown into a global phenomenon.
